A VA mortgage loan is partially Guaranteed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, but the loans are issued by lenders. You may be eligible for a VA loan by meeting one or more of the following requirements:
- You have served 90 consecutive days of active service during wartime, OR.
- You have served 181 days of active service during peacetime, OR.
- You have 6 years of service in the National Guard or Reserves, OR.
Eligible borrowers can use a VA loan to purchase a primary residence or refinance an existing mortgage. Depending on your eligibility 100% loan to value is available. A middle credit score of 620 is required by most lenders but not all. VA does not have a credit score requirement, but they are not the ones doing the actual lending.
